Dataships, a leading provider of data privacy software and services for e-commerce businesses, has successfully closed a €6.8 million Series A funding round. The round was led by Osage Ventures Partners, with participation from Lavrock Ventures and the Urban Innovation Fund.

The funding will enable Dataships to expand its mission of helping e-commerce merchants not only ensure compliance with GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act but also unlock significant marketing and revenue growth opportunities through smarter compliance solutions.

A New Perspective on Compliance as a Growth Lever
Founded in 2019 by co-CEOs Michael Storan and Ryan McErlane, Dataships has redefined the role of compliance from a regulatory necessity to a strategic advantage. “Since focusing on the e-commerce market, we’ve discovered something extraordinary: when done right, compliance isn’t just about protection—it’s about growth,” said McErlane.

Dataships’ innovative platform dynamically optimises consent language at checkout based on visitor location and marketing channel. This approach ensures both legal compliance and significantly increased opt-in rates, leading to larger marketing lists and higher revenue from repeat purchases.

“The one-size-fits-all approach most merchants use for consent collection often misses the mark. Either it’s overly restrictive, losing opt-ins, or too lenient, posing compliance risks,” McErlane added. “Our solution guarantees both growth and compliance, especially for multi-channel, multi-national brands.”

A Growth Catalyst for E-Commerce Brands
With the rising cost of customer acquisition and increasing shopper expectations for personalisation and privacy, Dataships is positioning itself as the essential growth platform for modern e-commerce brands.

“In today’s landscape, merchants need more than tactics; they need systematic strategies to expand their reach and engage their highest-value audience—purchasers,” said Storan. “We’re transforming compliance from a burden into a competitive edge, helping merchants build larger, more engaged marketing lists that drive sustainable growth.”

Expanding Global Operations
Dataships operates out of NexusUCD in Dublin and San Francisco, California, with a team of 25 employees. The new funding will support the company’s expansion efforts and bolster its services for e-commerce merchants in multiple regions.

By enabling merchants to tailor consent setups for email and SMS marketing by region, Dataships ensures businesses maintain compliance while maximising their growth potential.

Investor Confidence in the Dataships Vision
The Series A funding marks a significant milestone for Dataships as it solidifies its reputation as a game-changer in the compliance tech space. The company’s growth-driven approach has captured the attention of leading investors.

The future of e-commerce growth lies at the intersection of compliance, personalisation, and marketing. With its innovative platform and a strategic vision, Dataships is poised to redefine how merchants approach data privacy compliance in the digital age.
