Swiggy, a leader in the food delivery and quick commerce industry, has introduced Swiggy Serves, a groundbreaking initiative designed to address hunger and curb food waste across its value chain. In an effort to make a lasting impact, Swiggy has joined forces with the Robin Hood Army (RHA), a volunteer-driven organization, to redistribute surplus food from its restaurant partners to underserved communities.
The goal of Swiggy Serves is to provide 50 million meals by 2030, using technology to streamline and optimize food redistribution. Through this initiative, Swiggy aims to leverage its platform to not only provide quality food but also reduce wastage while contributing to society. “With ‘Swiggy Serves,’ we are leveraging our strengths and privilege to address a larger societal need and tackle the issues of food wastage and hunger. We are excited to partner with RHA to redistribute surplus food from our restaurant partners to those in need,” said Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Swiggy Food Marketplace.
The pilot phase of Swiggy Serves has already proven successful, with over 2,000 meals redistributed across 33 cities in India. More than 126 restaurant partners, including popular brands such as Biryani by the Kilo, Charcoal Eats, and Urban Tandoor, have joined the cause. These restaurants donate surplus food, and RHA volunteers then work to deliver it to the communities who need it most.
To participate, restaurant partners can fill out a form on the Swiggy Owner app, indicating their willingness to donate food. RHA facilitates the process by adding these restaurants to dedicated WhatsApp groups, ensuring smooth communication and coordination for food pickup and distribution.
Neel Ghose, Co-founder of Robin Hood Army, shared his excitement about the partnership: “Robin Hood Army is thrilled to come together with Swiggy for this shared mission of reducing hunger. When an industry leader like Swiggy collaborates with a community-driven movement, it amplifies the impact, inspiring others to join the fight against hunger. Together, we’re creating a stronger, united front to ensure no plate goes empty.”
Founded 10 years ago, RHA has already distributed over 153 million meals across 406 cities globally, and with the launch of Swiggy Serves, the effort is set to reach even more communities in need.
As part of its broader commitment to social responsibility, Swiggy continues to develop solutions that blend innovation with sustainability to make a meaningful difference in society.
