Buenos Aires-based energy infrastructure startup Unblock has raised $13.5 million in funding to scale its modular data center operations that convert stranded energy into computing power. The round was led by Goldcrest Capital and Collaborative Fund, with backing from investors such as Pampa Energia, Grupo Sielecki, FJ Labs, NYDIG, Luxor Technology, Sunna Ventures, and several notable Latin American entrepreneurs.
Unblock addresses a major inefficiency in energy production: wasted energy due to infrastructure bottlenecks. By deploying mobile, modular data centers at remote oil fields and renewable energy sites, the company transforms unused energy into computational infrastructure, primarily for AI and blockchain workloads. Currently, Unblock’s operations eliminate around 142,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually.
Founded by CEO Tomas Ocampo, Unblock is one of the fastest-growing computing operators in Latin America’s energy sector. In just over a year, it has scaled from 0 to 15MW of installed capacity and now plans to double that capacity by September, driven by two large projects already underway.
The newly raised funds will help the company scale aggressively across the region. Plans include local vertical integration of data center production and expansion of engineering and field operations teams to meet rising energy demands and computing needs.
Unblock’s model not only reduces emissions but also stabilizes power grid volatility by creating a flexible, elastic computing network that can absorb fluctuations in energy supply. This capability makes it uniquely positioned at the intersection of energy and technology in Latin America.
Goldcrest Capital, which has invested in iconic tech companies like SpaceX and Anduril, sees Unblock’s blend of de-risked technology and strong local execution as a rare opportunity. Collaborative Fund, known for backing high-impact businesses such as Lyft and Kickstarter, also endorsed Unblock’s alignment of economic value with environmental impact.
As AI and blockchain workloads grow more energy-intensive, Unblock aims to meet these demands while solving a long-standing issue in Latin America: wasted energy from underutilized infrastructure. This funding round solidifies its position as a regional leader in sustainable computing.
